Exploring Convention

A convention is the elements that makes up a genre.

It is the expected way of doing something to create a media product.

The thing about conventions are that they can vary between different media forms and genres.

Conventions can be split up into two categories;
Technical- the styles of camera work, editing and sound.
Symbolic- The mise-en-scene that is used along with costume, props, lighting, make up, and in a music video the layout of the band members.

A convention can allow for a media institution to help market a film because a audience will know what to expect and they will not be disappointed after consuming the media product.
