Music Video Idea 3-Catch And Release

Song: Catch and Release

Artist: Matt Simons
The artist is synthetic and a audience can easily distinguish this because in all of his promoting materials there is a image of himself, and also in his music videos he features himself in all of them and they are very much narrative lead instead of featuring a band. Although the fonts used and the connotations of the album name ‘Catch and Release’ suggest that the artist may be organic.
Matt Simons has the reputation of being very unique and true.
I personally like the artist because of the slow and meaningful lyrics that are generally really impactful and acoustically nice to listen to.

Video:
To be in keeping with the artists synthetic star image the music video would ideally be narrative based about a young boy who is running though the woods (in slow motion) and then gets to the beach and meets his friends who are running around and building sandcastles and digging holes and other conventions of a child on a beach, it would not need to be sunny or particularly warm.
There would be some reference to the artist perhaps a cut away to a single singer without a band, to help reinforce the artist star image.
The children would not be accompanied by a adult and would be made to look independent so props like bicycles and beach towels may be used to reinforce to the audience that the children are independent and to allow the audience to empathise and connect with the children without feeling as if they are looking at a group of immature children.

The children would be wearing costumes featuring trousers and t-shirts with sensible colours and limited branding.

Music Video Idea 2-Nobody To Love

Song: Nobody To Love

Artist: Sigma
Sigma is a relatively famous artist who is part of the dance/pop genre.
I personally want a fan of the artist until I saw them live at a festival and I instantly fell in love with their fun persona and energizing music.
Sigma is organ in the way that they do not actually show themselves in any on there album artworks or music video, but the subject matter is rather synthetic as the songs are about love and other trending music subjects.

------------------------------------------Original Music Video---------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Video:
The music video would be mainly be narrative based and wold feature a male who is walking on a beach with people all around and they are all ignoring him and then it cuts away to him sitting at a bar by himself with cutaways to slow motion people playing in the sea.
The man would be wearing some baggy trousers and a casual shirt whilst the women would be wearing dresses. The women would be wearing bright colors to connote playfulness and positive connotations.
As the time of the shooting (winter) will prohibit me from shooting scenes in and near the water I will have to appreciate this and make it more appropriate and use locations such as bars and so.

Music Video Idea 1-Be Together

Song: Be Together

Artist: Major Lazer
The artist creates songs that are a hybrid genre of pop and electronic which gives their songs a unique feeling and aesthetic.
The artist itself is organic because on their album artwork there are no pictures on themselves and in the music there is no actual sense of deviation from their original morals.  In the music video the band is rarely shown and it is more narrative based, this further reinforces there organic roots.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Video:
In the actual video I envisage the music video being based around the band performing in a really obscure place like the office with people all around acting normal and getting on with their daily life.
There would be cutaways to a narrative that would feature a reason for a couple being split apart and wanting to be back together desperately, for example the boyfriend is called away to work in another country doing something daring and unusual for example he is a war reporter in a heavily war stuck country and all he wants to do is come back.
The last scene would consist of them both toughing hands with a fading affect making it all look like a illusion.
The artist is very quirky and i believe that this idea fits in with the morals and ideals of the artist very well due to this.
The band would be wearing chinos/jeans and light coloured shirts to connote friendliness and quirkiness.
The male partner would be wearing muted and baggy clothing to connote that he is not happy and to further reinforce that he wants to come home. Whilst the woman would be wearing colours like white to connote peace and to further reinforce her disconnection from the man.

Test edit

I was on holiday in the Dolomites and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to practice my skills at editing a video to the beat of the song.
From this I learned the importance of every frame and how you cut a video will have a great impact on the overall media product.

Lip-sync task-editing

Editing video to sync up to audio is a completely new experience and is something that is unique and allows you to make content that compliments the audio.

We were given very tight time slots and this meant that the pressure was high, in fact the pressure was so high that we only finished our project 10 seconds before the deadline.

Adobe Premier Pro was our editing weapon of choice. Adobe Premier pro is one of the worlds most established NLE or non linear editing program.

We took small and basic steps to structure the video, first we imported the clips from the cameras via a high speed data transfer to the edit server. Once the video files were accessible on the editing computers in the edit suite we first added in the audio file and then added in the video files, to synchronize the audio we looked at the audio waveform and matched them up to the exact point in time to create a seamless and perfectly matched up set of clips.

After the timeline was prepared we use the cut tool to remove the clips that we didn't want and were left with a flat timeline. This made for a extremely clean and polished appearance.

Lip-sync Task-Shooting

We worked in groups of 5 in different areas in the studio.
The studio was divided up into 3 different areas- the green screen with a Cannon single lens reflex camera, the blue backdrop with a dolly and  Sony video camera, and the fireplace with the Cannon 5D.

The shooting task allowed us to fully understand how to shoot in a environment that required sound to be linked up to the audio.

We used a electronic clapperboard that was essentially a iPad with a video clip playing, the audio soundtrack was a series of beeps with the song following. The beeps were for the editing process so that when we had a look in the sound waves we could see the point in time to precisely match up to frame to the second. The iPad also had a colour board on it that could be used for colour matching so that the continuity would be perfect.

Though this task I learned that it was essential to shoot the same at least 3 times so that in the edit you have options.

One thing that i found useful was that you are shooting for the edit so think about what you are pointing the camera at.

It is also advised by several film professionals to always record for longer than you actually need because you can move clips around in the edit.

We swapped around rolls like camera operator, floor manager, clapperboard operator, director, and director of photography.

Calls were used so that we could clearly and quickly communicate with other team members.

One thing that proved especially difficult in the shoot was ensuring that people where being as efficient as possible as time is always really short on a shoot.

In future I will make sure that the group is properly prepared and briefed before commencing shooting.

Overall the shoot was hugely successful and produced great raw footage.
